The Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) is an international forum of 29 countries and the European Union with an overarching mission of reducing the vulnerability of people worldwide to terrorism by preventing, combating, and prosecuting terrorist acts and countering incitement and recruitment to terrorism.

Our forum brings together experts and practitioners from countries and regions around the world to share experiences and expertise, and develop tools and strategies on how to counter the evolving terrorist threat. The GCTF is Co-Chaired by Morocco and the Netherlands.

Workshop on Integrating Prisons into National Counter-Terrorism Arrangements

SEMARANG – Indonesia – The GCTF Detention and Reintegration Working Group’s (DRWG) workshop on “Integrating Prisons into National Counter-Terrorism Arrangements” was hosted by the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC) on 11-12 April 2017, in Semarang, Indonesia. 

The DRWG Co-Chairs, Australia and Indonesia, marked the crucial role of prisons in countering violent extremism and breaking the cycle of radicalization, and in optimizing the chance of a successful rehabilitation and sustainable reintegration into society of Violent Extremist Offenders (VEOs). Presentations were delivered on the subjects of information-sharing, identifying and countering radicalization in prisons, and post release and reintegration.
