Review Meeting of the Initiative on Criminal Justice Responses to the Linkages between Terrorism, Transnational Organized Crimes and International Crimes

The two virtual Review Meetings,supported by the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT), discussed the draft Addendum to The Hague Good Practices on the Nexus between Transnational Organized Crime and Terrorism: Focus on Criminal Justice. This document was developed under the auspices of the Initiative on Criminal Justice Responses to the Linkages between Terrorism, Transnational Organized Crimes and International Crimes. Two Expert Meetings had been convened in London on 29-30 October 2019 and in Malta on 11-13 February 2020 to gather input. Furthermore, a questionnaire on criminal justice approaches to the nexus between terrorism and transnational organized crimes was circulated to GCTF Members and non-members ahead of the Review Meetings, where responses to the questionnaire were discussed. Additionally, practicioners, as well as the United Nations have also provided input into the discussions, which were focused around the following main themses:

  • Prevention
  • Detection and Investigation
  • Prosecution and Sentencing

The aforementioned Addendum will be put forward for endorsement at the Seventeenth GCTF Coordinating Committee Meeting scheduled for September 2020.
