About the GCTF

The Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) is an informal, apolitical, multilateral counterterrorism platform. It is small, nimble, inclusive, and consensus-based. Its overarching mission is to reduce the vulnerability of people worldwide to terrorism by mobilizing expertise and resources to prevent, combat, and prosecute terrorist acts and counter incitement and recruitment to terrorism.

The Forum brings together policymakers and practitioners from around the world to share experiences and expertise, and to develop practical, publicly available tools and strategies on how to prevent and counter the evolving terrorist threat. The GCTF is currently co-chaired by Egypt and the European Union.

Capacity-Building in the East Africa Region Working Group - Plenary Meeting

Capacity-Building in the East Africa Region Working Group - Plenary Meeting

18 April 2018

The Plenary Meeting provided an opportunity to update on ongoing priorities and challenges. Overall, discussions revealed an enhanced commitment on the side of the East African countries to address capacity building and structural reforms in the field of CT and P/CVE, both nationally and at the regional level. The Co-Chairs reminded of the local coordinator mechanism and encouraged that best use is made of it in the inter-sessional period. In addition, participants noted the main outcomes of two side-events held prior to the Plenary Meeting: the Egypt-sponsored expert workshop 'Towards a Comprehensive Approach to Countering Extremist Narratives Conducive to Terrorism in the East and Horn of Africa' and the EU-sponsored Seminar on 'Countering Finance of Terrorism in East Africa: Sharing of Good Practices'.
