About the GCTF

The Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) is an informal, apolitical, multilateral counterterrorism platform. It is small, nimble, inclusive, and consensus-based. Its overarching mission is to reduce the vulnerability of people worldwide to terrorism by mobilizing expertise and resources to prevent, combat, and prosecute terrorist acts and counter incitement and recruitment to terrorism.

The Forum brings together policymakers and practitioners from around the world to share experiences and expertise, and to develop practical, publicly available tools and strategies on how to prevent and counter the evolving terrorist threat. The GCTF is currently co-chaired by Egypt and the European Union.

Capacity-Building in the East Africa Region Working Group - Second Plenary Meeting

20 February 2019

The purpose of the meeting was to take stock of the progress and national experiences related to the six priority themes of the EAWG Work Plan 2018 – 2019 and provide an opportunity to update on ongoing priorities and challenges. The six priority areas include Border Security and Information Sharing, Counterterrorism (CT) Legislation and Related Training, National and Regional P/CVE Action Plans, Countering Terrorist Financing, Strategic Communications and Inter-faith Dialogue. Sessions related to countering terrorism online and countering violent extremism (CVE) enabled GCTF Members and partner organizations to share best practices and lessons learned and identify possible opportunities for regional cooperation.
