About the GCTF

The Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) is an informal, apolitical, multilateral counterterrorism platform. It is small, nimble, inclusive, and consensus-based. Its overarching mission is to reduce the vulnerability of people worldwide to terrorism by mobilizing expertise and resources to prevent, combat, and prosecute terrorist acts and counter incitement and recruitment to terrorism.

The Forum brings together policymakers and practitioners from around the world to share experiences and expertise, and to develop practical, publicly available tools and strategies on how to prevent and counter the evolving terrorist threat. The GCTF is currently co-chaired by Egypt and the European Union.

Eleventh GCTF Coordinating Committee Meeting

Eleventh GCTF Coordinating Committee Meeting

9-10 March 2017

The Eleventh GCTF Coordinating Committee Meeting provided opportunity for the Working Group Co-Chairs and the Co-Leads of GCTF Initiatives to update members on activities conducted in the inter-sessional period and provided an overview for the next steps in the run-up to the Twelfth GCTF Coordinating Committee Meeting in September 2017.

In addition, GCTF Members broadly supported the proposal regarding a stronger emphasis on the implementation of existing GCTF tools, the thematic Working Groups’ role on further developing expertise on emerging topics, as well as the role of geographical Working Groups as platforms for the implementation of GCTF good practices in a regional context. Members also agreed on the expansion of scope of geographical WGs to facilitate further inclusiveness.
