About the GCTF

The Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) is an informal, apolitical, multilateral counterterrorism platform. It is small, nimble, inclusive, and consensus-based. Its overarching mission is to reduce the vulnerability of people worldwide to terrorism by mobilizing expertise and resources to prevent, combat, and prosecute terrorist acts and counter incitement and recruitment to terrorism.

The Forum brings together policymakers and practitioners from around the world to share experiences and expertise, and to develop practical, publicly available tools and strategies on how to prevent and counter the evolving terrorist threat. The GCTF is currently co-chaired by Egypt and the European Union.

Countering Violent Extremism Working Group Workshop on the CVE Challenges of Returning Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTFs) and their Families

7-8 March 2019

The Workshop provided an opportunity for CVE policymakers, practitioners, experts, and civil society organizations (CSOs) to discuss the challenges of rehabilitating and reintegrating returnees, relocators, and their families as well as effective and inclusive approaches in this regard. The Workshop built on the work conducted by the GCTF Foreign Terrorist Fighters Working Group and prioritized operational CVE discussions, including lessons learned from monitoring and evaluation, and a focus on gender dimensions throughout each of the sessions. With this, the Workshop also informed the development of an Addendum to the GCTF Good Practices on Women and Countering Violent Extremism by the CVE Working Group.
